Laines - Configurable Surfaces
The purpose of this project is to design a central channel with electrification that can be placed on any work surface. This can then be accessorised enabling users to adapt and create different environments that will encourage productivity.
‘Laines’ takes its inspiration from the lively Brighton Laines, where our studio is located. Just as the iconic Brighton area combines beauty and functionality, ‘Laines’ provides a versatile canvas for users to customize their ideal table with imaginative add-ons.
Laines is a highly adaptable modular system designed to seamlessly integrate technology, storage, and privacy into both new and existing desks. This system offers three working modes, easily adjustable on the fly to accommodate various use cases.
With integrated technology features, users can stay connected through charging stations, while each individual atthe table can conveniently plug in their devices, share content on an external screen, and effortlessly switch presenters with a simple button press using the Ochno sockets from Bachmann.
At the heart of the product is a central zig-zag channel, serving as a hub for USBC connectors, providing both power and the ability to share users' device screens on external presentation monitors.
This channel acts as the foundational structure for seamlessly incorporating various accessories. Among these additions are a lamp, stationary storage, a platform, extendable mains power, and acoustic screens.
